What is the National Benefit Card Program?
The National Benefit Program is a discount medical plan that provides discounted
medical services for its members at participating providers – it is not insurance.
Discount medical plans are licensed and registered with the Department of Insurance
in various states.
What is included in a Discount Medical Plan?
Services received from participating physicians, hospitals, dentists, chiropractors,
optometrists, and other health care professionals are included as services under
the program. Those members who participate in The National Benefit Card Program
Plus are also entitled to hospital fee negotiation services. Hospital fee negotiations
are not part of the discount medical plan but are an added service that The National Benefit Card Program Plus members may use if they wish.
No. The National Benefit Card Program requires that all payments be made
by the participant to the provider; The National Benefit Card Program can
make no payment to the provider on behalf of the member.
Can I use this if I have insurance?
Yes. You may participate in The National Benefit Card Program but you will
be required to make a claim under your insurance for reimbursement of all or part
of the bill from the participating provider.
Are providers required to honor The National Benefit Card Program discount?
Providers may have limitations that we do not know about at the time service
is rendered. If your provider does not recognize your identification card, have
him or her call the appropriate number on the card or 800-896-1962 and we will
work with him.
Where is the Provider Listing?
Will The National Benefit Card Program assist me in paying the bill?
No. Regulations specifically state that The National Benefit Card Program
cannot pay any part of the bill; however, there are payment options available
under the negotiation portion of The National Benefit Card Program Plus program
that are not provided by The National Benefit Card Program Basic.
